The spring flight of Greater Snow Geese began On May 11 with 3 birds noted west of Ingleside. The following day, 4-5000 appeared flying east along the St. Lawrence River towards Cornwall (this is the same arrival time as in 2010). Since then, scattered flocks of dozens to hundreds are being seen flying overhead most days, mainly in areas within about 5-10 km of the St. Lawrence River. A larger group of thousands was noted on the ground last Friday north of Hwy. 401 near Muttonville (north of Ingleside).
With spring advancing quickly and the river opening up, the main flight of 75-100,000 birds coming in from New York State should be along soon.
