Observed tonight from 8:45 to 9:15 four NIGHTHAWKS display/diving over the gravel fields on Sills Road 4.2 km east of Hwy 62 n of Belleville.
Starting at 9:15 WHIP-POOR-WILLS could be heard calling at the same location. Sills Road runs east from Hwy 62 about 1.5 km north of the Ridge-Moira Road just after a farm at 10260 Hwy 62 n. Birds can be observed by stopping at a locked iron gate on the north side of the road opposite fields posted with a "Gonsolus Aggregate" sign on the south side. This is a reliable spot for both species which were observed at the same location each year of the 2000-2005 Atlas Study and in the years since. Observed June 18, 2012, at 6:45 - 9:15 by Robert D Mound, Cheryl Mound, 9632 Hwy 62, RR4 Stirling and others. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
