Harald Scholz and I spent a productive morning at West Perth Wetlands. When we arrived there were lots of shorebirds in the first cell next to the parking lot. Most numerous were Lesser Yellowlegs and Killdeer along with lower numbers of Greater Yellowlegs, Least Sandpiper, Pectoral Sandpiper, and Semipalmated Sandpiper. Moving to the most easterly cell we found more of the same along with 4 Stilt Sandpiper and Spotted Sandpiper. Upon returning to the first cell we found that plovers had arrived. There were 2 American Golden Plover and 6 Black-bellied Plover. Other birds of note included Pied-billed Grebe, scores of Wood Duck, both teal, a dozen Ruby-throated Hummingbird, Indigo Bunting, Barn, Tree, and Cliff Swallows. Steve ThorpeStratford West Perth Wetlands are in Mitchell. From Ontario St (Hwy 8) travel south on Wellington St to Frank St. Cross the road and follow the gravel to the parking lot. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
