About 2 weeks ago I picked up a round table and placed it under the willows at
Richmond DR. Bog. Tonight, Hans, Madeline, Dawn and I decided to have a picnic
and watch the birds come in. It was a pleasant evening temp. wise. We watched
35 egrets fly directly over head on there way to the roost. One flypast had 15
egrets, quite a sight. When the egrets weren't flying, we had a dozen green
herons moving around the marsh plus 3 or 4 great blues and about 15 black-crown
night herons. What a pleasant way to spend the evening.
At 7:45PM, on our way out of the bog, we paused to count 51 great egrets in
the roost, a high for the year. They seem to be peaking right now. We expect
the numbers to gradually decline for the next month as the egrets begin to
migrate. Tues. I counted 42 egrets and Mon. we had 32. Bob Scranton
