This morning at 10:30 am., my friend Heather and I were able to find the PURPLE
GALLINULE at Port Weller. It was in and out of the reeds on the southwest
corner of the first pond (near a hummock and log) at the the edge which was
best visible from the east side of the pond. Also in the pond at that time were
three COOTS and a family of MALLARDS.

Directions:

Take the QEW to exit 44 - Niagara Street. Go north on Niagara
to Lakeshore. Turn right on Lakeshore and cross the canal. Turn left at
Seaway Haulage Road and stay on this road as it goes along the edge of the
canal until you reach a gate; a parking area is along the road. The walk
along a hard-packed trail is about a km to the west side trail viewing area, a
bit
further on the hard-packed trail if you go to the east trail side of the pond.
(This morning we tried both trails and the east side trail was best for finding
and viewing.) Barb Wrightsabre@sympatico.caBeamsville, ON
