Folks, I saw some other reports today from Ottawa and Cambridge of these birds, so thought our observations might be interesting as well. Saw many small flocks of all of these birds moving around Bronte Creek Provincial Park in Oakville/Burlington this morning. They were flying back and forth from the edge of Lake Ontario into the southern side of the Park. We first started seeing them in Parking Lot F near the Spruce Line Heritage Farm House.
They clearly wanted to keep moving and were quite talkative (both the Crossbills and Siskins have distinctive calls in flight and when agitated). Flocks ranged in size from just a few birds to many dozen at once, but were always in single species flocks (at least the best we could see). Also had many Yellow-rumped Warblers, various sparrow species, and all local woodpeckers including Pileated and Red-bellied. Bronte Creek Provincial Park is just off of Burloak Road north of Highway 403/QEW between Oakville and Burlington.
