Had a (chilly) boat trip on the Upper Rideau Lake this morning (near the Narrows Locks, at the opposite end of the lake from Westport) Saw the following: 7 Common Loons, 1 Red Necked Grebe, 1 Great Blue Heron, 2 Trumpeter Swans, 6 Black Scoter, 14 Long Tailed Ducks, 39 Common Goldeneye, 115+ Common Merganser, 7 Hooded Merganser, 2 Bald Eagle, 1 Red Shouldered Hawk (at Narrows Lane), 35 Cedar Waxwings, 9 American Robins, 3 Eastern Bluebirds, 1 Northern Shrike. The Narrows are on Narrows Locks Road (Cty Rd 14) 6.5 km north of Crosby, ON (on Hwy 15, 60 km north of Kingston, ON) All birds were sighted in the northeast arm of the Upper Rideau from Big Island to the Narrows causeway and along Narrows Locks Road to Crosby. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
