The first "official" Cape Croker Christmas Bird Count was hosted by the
Chippewas of Nawash First Nation on Saturday, December 17, on the beautiful
Bruce Peninsula.

A total of 41 species was found by eleven intrepid counters.

The highlight of the count was an Eastern Meadowlark.

Other species of interest were: Horned Grebe (2), Bald Eagle (4), Rough-legged
Hawk (2), Great Black-backed Gull (2) and Red-bellied Woodpecker (2), as well
as relatively high numbers of American Goldfinch (307), Snow Bunting (120),
Northern Shrike (5), Common Raven (23), Common Goldeneye (154), Long-tailed
Duck (42) and White-winged Scoter (13).

It was a most enjoyable day for all, with great weather and great hospitality.

But it did, like poetry, force me to look up." -- Jonathan Rosen
