This morning my wife and I were treated to a splendid spectacle as a Bald Eagle (3rd year?) and an Osprey battled in the sky. Initially the eagle was being pestered by a crow, to which it paid no heed, but when the Osprey appeared on the scene a serious dispute ensued. The Osprey repeatedly dived onto the eagle from above, causing the eagle to roll over, talons outstretched. This went on for about fifteen minutes until the eagle perched in a tree and the Osprey gave up any attempt to drive the eagle away from its fishing territory. I have read a previous post somewhere speaking of a resident pair of Ospreys but we have seen no evidence of this and no second Osprey came to help drive off the Bald Eagle. The only Osprey platform that I know of is in serious disrepair and I suspect would collapse if birds tried to construct a nest on it.
