Festival of Birds at Point Pelee National Park of Canada. Proceeds from
hikes support the Friends of Point Pelee and Point Pelee National Park.

*Point Pelee National Park Migration Update for:  May 3, 2012.*

Another good day of migration at Point Pelee National Park with at least 19
warbler species observed and reported by 11 a.m. Highlights from the Tip
area of the park included: Tennessee, Orange-crowned, Blackburnian,
Yellow-throated, Ovenbird, Hooded and Canada. Cape May and Northern
Parulawere noted from most of the trails.



Scarlet Tanagers were reported from both the west side of the Woodland
Trail and east side of the Tilden Trail. Also in Tilden was a first of the
year Olive-sided Flycatcher and Least Flycatchers are calling and being
seen at the Tip, Woodland Trail and Tilden.



Four species of Vireo have been seen including White-eyed, Blue-headed and
Yellow-throated in the Tip area and Red-eyed just south of the Visitor’s
Centre.



Clay-colored and Grasshopper Sparrows were reported on the West Beach trail
north of the tram stop.



The first Ruby-throated Hummingbirds have arrived seen feeding on flowering
Eastern Columbine near the Visitor’s Centre.



Other species of note included a singing Sedge Wren just south of the 42
Parallel sign at the Tip, a first of the year Gray-cheeked Thrush at the
north end of the tram circle, and a TUFTED TIMOUSE reported from the east
side of the Visitor Centre parking lot. There were several reports of a
CHUCK-WILL’S WIDOW heard singing from the north end of the Visitor’s Centre
parking lot at 5:30 a.m. No visual confirmation at this point.
