Hello Birders: While visiting my grandchildren, in west Oakville, today I decided to do ( what else!) some birdwatching. The Fish Crow was heard, was seen, and was videographed at # 78 Jones Street in Bronte. At this adress (south of Lakeshore) there is a mature tree ( seem to recall a Kentucky Coffee Tree or Ailunthus Chinese Tree-of-Heaven) in front of Bronte Centre Pharmacy, that the Fish Crow favoured to fly to when it was being harassed by RW Blackbirds and Grackles. At times it went behind (east of...) the ROYAL CANADIAN LEGION across the street. It was in this general area for at least 40 minutes. Note that the Licks restaurant parking ( previously mentioned by Gavin) is about 50 m west of Jones Street. At about 7:45 PM, the Fish Crow flew north of Lakeshore into a wooded area ( perhaps to roost) north of adress #2381 Lakeshore Blvd near an empty lot of land.
Other Birds: Red-necked Grebe nest east of the Compass Restaurant at the Bronte Harbour ********************************* AS WELL.... along West Base Line, between 4th and 5th line in North Oakville-Milton area, there are many territorial (nesting birds).. Eastern Meadowlarks, many Bobolinks, Vesper Sparrow, Eastern Kingbird, etc. At The RIVERWOOD Conservancy (in Mississauga, north side of Burnhamthorpe east of the Credit River) birdwatching walks continue this month [ Wednesdays & Saturdays... 8:30 am to 10:00 am ] the Cooper's Hawks have FOUR chicks in the nest ready to fledge. As well, there are reliable nesting Ruby-throated Hummingbirds, Rose-breasted Grosbeaks, Indigo Buntings, Great-crested Flycatchers, Blue-grey Gnatcatchers, a colony of Cliff swallows, Wood Ducks, Great-crested Flycatchers, Eastern Phoebes & Wood Peewees, Mourning & Pine Warblers, Cedar Waxwings, House & Carolina Wrens, etc. Cheers Luc Fazio ############################# Directions: Exit the QEW at Bronte Rd. (Oakville) and go to the Lakeshore. Turn Left on Lakeshore past the Licks restaurant to Jones Street, turn south on Jones St., go to # 78 Bronte Centre Pharmacy ( Bronte Health Centre). Listen for the Fish Crow's calls. .....as per Gavin Edmunston The grebe nest is just east of Compass Restaurant on Ontario Street. This area is served by Oakville Transit routes 2 and 14 from the Bronte and Oakville GO Train stations respectively. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
