Ontbirders,

A visit to the south end of Wildwood Lake found the impoundment pond very low
and conditions for shorebirds excellent. Although there wasn't anything
unusual, numbers were good -- 75 Lesser Yellowlegs, 50 Least Sandpiper, 200
Killdeer, 10 Solitary Sandpiper, 3 Short-billed Dowitcher. As expected, all
were worn / molting adults.

If conditions hold, numbers will build through the rest of the month [for
adults], with juveniles showing after that. If you are in the area, it would
probably be worth a look. Best viewing is from 31st Line, north from
Harrington. Park just before the armco barrier on the east side of the road and
walk a short distance to the pond. This angle puts you closer to the birds and
with better light than the dyke farther north.

For those so inclined, the Swamp Milkweed along the pond edge was great for
butterflies, with Mulberrywing, Black Dash and Broad-winged Skipper present.

To reach the lake, take CR 6 north from the 401 to CR 28. Go west through
Harrington and take the 1st right [31st Line] north.
