Greetings Ontbirders Tonight while biking to the bridge on Paxton overlooking the Calf Pasture I heard a call I wasn't familiar with. When I scanned the trees a kingbird with a massive bill was perched on a dead branch. I knew it had to be a Thick-billed Kingbird!
I got on the phone and the first person to arrive was Andrea Kingsley followed by a group of local birders. Pictures, video and call were all recorded. At approx 7.55pm it flew into a thick Ash tree and hopefully settled in. The best place for people to park tomorrow coming to see the bird would be in the lower parking lot at the north end of Atkins Lane. Bill Gilmour 613 475 4219 To reach Presqu'ile Provincial Park, follow the signs from Brighton. Locations within the Park are shown on a map at the back of a tabloid that is available at the Park gate. Access to the offshore islands is restricted at this time of year to prevent disturbance to the colonial nesting birds there. Birders are encouraged to record their observations on the bird sightings board provided near the campground office by The Friends of Presqu'ile Park and to fill out a rare bird report for species not listed there _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
