A WESTERN KINGBIRD was seen briefly on the 6th near the west end of Rue
Lamoureax, in Gatineau, by a single fortunate birder. It was not subsequently
found. This is the same area that this species was seen by many on 03 November
2001.

Numbers of geese and sparrows continue to move through the Ottawa/Gatineau area.
- NELSON'S SPARROW (6+) were last reported on the 7th at the mouth of Constance
Creek at Constance Bay.
- CACKLING (5), ROSS'S (2 on the 6th and 1 sporadically all week) and SNOW (15)
GEESE continue to be seen at the Moodie Drive pit (Burnside pit) as well as
GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GOOSE (1) on the 5th
- on the 8th Brant (250) at Andrew Haydon and on Carp Rd near McGee Side Rd;
ROSS'S (1 adult) and SNOW (15 with one juv.) GEESE

This excellent report from yesterday by 2 local birders;
"14 species of waterfowl including a tight flock of 50-60 Brant on the river
off Andrew Haydon among increasing numbers of Canada Geese; impressive numbers
of Woods Ducks, American Wigeon and Ring-necked Ducks on Mud Lake and a pair
(male & female) of Redhead that have been present with the Ring-necks for a few
days; several Blue-winged and Green-winged Teal at Shirley's Bay and Andrew
Haydon; Lesser Scaup, Common Goldeneye and 4 Surf Scoters at Shirley's Bay.
Also scattered along the river were all 3 species of Merganser and several
Horned and Red-necked Grebes.

A few Great Egrets continue to hang out at Shirley's Bay west of the
causeway....getting late for this species in Ottawa, but no surprise
considering the "easy" weather. Interesting perspective-- - just 10 years ago,
this species was still considered "rare" in Ottawa. Now birders go out & say
"only a few egrets today?" Fantastic that this species has been so successful,
and that the first Ottawa-area breeding record was confirmed this year!

Other than water-birds - the sparrow movement continues, esp. White-throated &
White-crowned Sparrows and Dark-eyed Juncos...and Fox Sparrows have begun to
move through too - right on time!"
- Winchester lagoon on the 5th; SNOW (2) and CACKLING (2) GEESE, CANVASBACK
(2), RUDDY DUCK (2), LESSER YELLOWLEGS (1) and LAPLAND LONGSPUR (1)
- Moodie pit on the 5th; CACKLING (1) and CANADA (5000) GEESE, GADWALL (2),
NORTHERN PINTAIL (4), REDHEAD (1), LESSER SCAUP (6) and PIED-BILLED GREBE (1)
and on the 10th; GADWALL (2), REDHEAD (3), RING-NECKED (100), GREATER (1) and
LESSER (15) SCAUP, HOODED MERGANSER (1), RUDDY DUCK (30), GREATER YELLOWLEGS
(5), PECTORAL SANDPIPER (1), BONAPARTE'S GULL (3), AMERICAN PIPIT (25) and
RED-WINGED BLACKBIRD (5)
- Russell lagoon on the 8th; RED-NECKED PHALAROPE (1), CACKLING (1) and ROSS'S
(3) GEESE and on the 10th; WHITE-WINGED (4) and BLACK (1 female) SCOTER and
AMERICAN COOT (3)
- Shirleys Bay on the 9th; WHITE-WINGED SCOTER (10) and on the mud flats
BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER (1) and GREATER YELLOWLEGS (5)
- Ottawa Beach and Dick Bell Park on the 9th; CACKLING GOOSE (2), SURF SCOTER
(3), HORNED ABD RED-NECKED GREBES and numbers of BLUE-HEADED VIREO

Kanata
- CAROLINA WREN (1) seen and heard around Bell High School on the 6th and at
Britannia Conservation Area on the 9th
