Today I birded Lakeside Park and adjacent areas starting at 10:00 a.m. in broken fog. I found 3 juvenile and an adult Purple Sandpiper with 17 Dunlin feeding along algae-covered boulders on the long port pier for the Concrete (?) Plant. This pier is located south of the western parking lot of Lakeside park. You need to take the waterfront trail west along the lake behind the Suncor Office Building to where the trail turns at right angle. There is access to the lake at that point but the pier itself if secured by a high fence. They were about 1/3 way down the length of the pier and I did need my 30x scope to get a good look the details on the sandpipers. When I left to bird VanWagner's Beach at 11:15 am the fog was still going in and out over the entire pier.

Directions: Lakeside Park is located south of Lakeshore Boulevard close to the south end of the Winston Churchill. Park in the first parking east of the Winston Churchill/Lakeshore Intersection. The pier is clearly visible after you walk down the lake. The pier is a short walk from there.
