This afternoon, there was an adult THAYER'S GULL, several hundred Herring Gulls and 8 Great Black-backed Gulls among the thousands of Snow Geese in the fields.
During the week-end there was a Lesser Black-backed Gull, a Brant and a juvenile Ross's Goose in the same area. If you see a Harris Hawk don't get excited, it is the one used on contract to patrol the dump site in order to try to keep the gulls away; to the joy of birders the gulls no longer loaf at the dump site (birders not admitted) but rather in the fields in plain view. DIRECTIONS: The Laflèche Rd landfill site is located at the dead end of Laflèche Road. >From HWY 417 take HWY 138 south (exit 58), turning right on Laflèche road which is the first road south of the 417. The dump is at the end of the dead end road, however, the gulls are best observed with the geese in the fields north of the the road. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
