On Saturday, Dec.8, the male Harlequin Duck was easily spotted with binoculars
in exactly the same location as previously reported, in Port Weller on the left
(north) side of the far end of the eastern spit. It was keeping company with 4
female Buffleheads close to the shore. Directions from previous posting; From
QEW, exit at Niagara Street and head north on Niagara Street. Continue along
Niagara until it ends at Lakeshore Road. Turn right onto Lakeshore Road and
cross the Welland Canal at Lock 1. Drive until Seaway Haulage Road, turn left
onto this road, and continue until you reach the recreation trails along the
canal. Walk down the road or the path, till the far end of the Eastern spit.
The Harlequin was spotted here, as well as other ducks and a red necked
grebe.............Good Luck, Astrid Akkerman
