Greetings Birders, The wind was out of the NW overnight but there was a fair amount of activity at various locations in the park, including a smattering of warblers.
So far, we've tallied 24 species of warblers. The Tip had a good concentration of activity, with GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER, and CERULEAN WARBLER being reported, along with several BLACKBURNIAN WARBLER, NASHVILLE WARBLER and NORTHERN PARULA being among the more conspicuous ones. BLACKPOLL WARBLER and MAGNOLIA WARBLER were also noted there, along with several BLUE-HEADED VIREOS, a PHILADELPHIA VIREO and four PINE SISKINS. YELLOW-THROATED VIREO was reported from Post Woods and WILSON'S WARBLER from Woodland Nature Trail., Many VEERY, BLACK-AND-WHITE WARBLER, LEAST FLYCATCHER and singing OVENBIRD were reported from Tilden Woods along with CAPE MAY WARBLER and an OLIVE-SIDED FLYCATCHER. Two RED-HEADED WOODPECKERS put on a great show for our guided hike participants on the East Beach just north of the Tip. Shorebirds at the Tip this morning included singles of RUDDY TURNSTONE, DUNLIN, BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER and an obliging WILLET. A PEREGRINE FALCON was seen perched on a snag north from the DeLaurier Trail raised observation platform. BLACK-BILLED CUCKOO was reported from a couple of locations including Tilden Woods and the Sparrow Field. Multiple SCARLET TANAGERS and singles of SWAINSON'S THRUSH were seen in Tilden Woods as well at the Tip The grey morph EASTERN SCREECH-OWL that was seen yesterday is still being observed on south of post 3 on Woodland Nature Trail.
