I am currently watching a Franklin's Gull from a small opening about 200m south down the river from the Sir Adam Beck Lookout. The bird appears to be in second basic plumage and is flying towards Adam Beck as I type. This group of rocks seems like a good spot for it to be hanging out if it isn't at Adam Beck and this is where a lot of the Bonaparte's Gulls are resting.
Directions: The lookout from Sir Adam Beck is located just across from the power station. It is on the Niagara Parkway and 4km south of Queenston. The small opening is approximately 200 m south down the river(towards Niagara Falls) from the lookout over Adam Beck. Walk down the paved path that runs along the river. There is a small but worn dirt path that cuts left from the paved path. From this lookout, look right over the river at the group of rocks. But BE CAREFUL. There is no fence to protect from falling over the edge. _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
