The Thick-billed Murre reported by Mark Read swam east close to shore on the Kingston waterfront and stopped at the foot of Maitland street at the Kingston Yacht Club. It was just to the west side quite close to shore in the bay where Maitland street ends. It might overnight at this location as it was there at dusk 16.20. (From there it could swim east to the downtown waterfront or the Wolfe Island ferry dock). It was not observed to dive or feed while we were there.
Directions: Exit highway 401 at exit 615, Sir John A MacDonald Blvd, and go south until it ends. Then left on King Street past the big smoke stack at Kingston General Hospital and the traffic light at Barrie Street. Then watch for Maitland street (one block past Emily Street) and turn right one block. Program 1 Maitland Street Kingston. At dawn there would be parking there but all parking places during the day are reserved and the Yacht club is private property. It would be best to park in a nearby location and walk into Maitland street. happy trying Paul Mackenzie _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
