Hi there,

I am just back from the Trail Rd., Quarry Ponds, specifically, Barnsdale
Rd. on the S side of the of the ponds, roughly 250 m north of the
Moodie/Barnsdale intersection. Where, a SMASHING juvenile dark-morph
Red-tailed Hawk was "kiting" right over my vehicle. I nearly got in an
accident as I noticed this "dark morph hawk" with Red-tailed features from
a little ways away and happened to stop directly on Barnsdale, vs. pull
over to the side of the road. I was narrowly missed and could only afford a
meager nod as I was given the finger by a tough-looking feller; I was
locked on to my dream bird! I left the site but it was still hunting the
ponds, occasionally kiting and hovering, when I left. I really hope it
sticks around for others to see.

I was able to take many photos.

Directions: (As per those given on Neilyworld.com): From Highway 416 take
exit 66 (Fallowfield Road). If southbound, a 0.4 km offramp dumps onto
Fallowfield, where you will turn right or west. If northbound, the 0.4 km
offramp brings you to Fallowfield, where you will turn left or west onto it
and in 0.5 km join the southbound offramp traffic. Both groups will now
follow Fallowfield Road west for an additional 0.4 km to reach Moodie
Drive. Turn left or southeast onto Moodie Drive and go 5.3 km, passing
Cambrian Road to reach the quarries (second gate on the left). Park along
the side of the road without blocking the access.

Good birding,
Jon Ruddy
