On February 16/14, about noon, while parked in the parking lot of the Bayview
Heights Public School at 1400 Garvolin Ave., Pickering - south of Hwy. 401
opposite the Pickering Town Centre - and parked facing the red brick wall, a
bird suddenly flew up in front of my car. The bird landed on the orange hood of
the Mitsubishi Eclipse parked immediately to my left, and began sipping from a
small pool of melted salty water. My attention was immediately drawn to this
flight and I immediately turned to the left and froze my movement.
Unmistakable.....a Northern Mockingbird. After about 10 to 15 seconds, this
bird flew to the other side of the brick wall and into the hedges there. At the
time, if was particularly windy and bitterly cold outside. I was about 6 feet
away from the Northern Mockingbird.
