I just received notification that a Great Egret with a green wing tag, #24E, was observed today in State College, Pennsylvania, in a retention pond on the campus of Penn State University. This is the first report for this bird since it was banded by us on 12 July 2011 on Nottawasaga Island near Collingwood, ON. My best guess is that this almost 3 year old bird is on its way back to Nottawasaga Island, where it may breed this year.
Ontbirders are reminded to be on the lookout for wing-tagged egrets or egrets with red plastic leg bands...please report them to me personally.
