The water levels are partially down at Earl Rowe Park west of Alliston. At the northwest end of the reservoir there are some mudflats at the point where the river broaden’s into the reservoir and there are some small islands. The was one Stilt Sandpiper there this morning and when I went back around 4:00 pm there was also a White-rumped Sandpiper as well as Greater and Lesser Yellowlegs and Pectoral Sandpipers. Also present was a great Egret.
Eale Rowe Park is just west of Alliston Ontario. Take Hwy 89 West out of town. Turn right (north) onto the 7th Concession. At the top of the next hill is the park entrance on the left. The mud flats can be viewed from the trails on either side of the reservoir where the river enters and splits around some small islands. The easiest route is to proceed to the farthest picnic area on the north side and walk up the trail along the river bank. Unfortunately some mud flats are only visible from one side or the other, but the birds were last seen on the mudflats between two islands and visible from both shores.
