A group (10) of young scouts, Grandparents and two grandkids, and 4 others. Weather: Temp 7.5-10.4C, Pressure 29.67 mmHg steady, Overcast 75%-95%, Rain drops for 20 minutes only. Wind SW mostly 13-20km/hr Max gust 38.6km.hr Raptor Observations: Very windy conditions kept all birds from flying high or at all. TVs that numbers honors but OS and PG each at 5 were unexpected at best. The merlin was so fast. The Kestrel had not read the wind report and was struggling. I thought it went for the plastic owl but I realized the wind blew it close to the owl! Non-raptor Observations: Canada Goose - 55, Mute Swan - 15, Mallard - 30, Blue-winged Teal - 1, Dubl-crested Corm - 50, Great Blue Heron - 2, Great Egret - 5, Killdeer - 15, Sandpiper Species - 12, Bonaparte's Gull - 35, Ring-billed Gull - 30, G. Black-backed Gull - 1, Gull Species - 35, Belted Kingfisher - 1, Downy Woodpecker - 1, Blue Jay - 500, Tree Swallow - 52, N. R.-winged Swallow - 4, Swallow Species - 15, European Starling â 1,000, unidentified warblers - 5. Tree Swallows were mostly inches off of the water in the marsh gleaning insects. Predictions: Choice #1: Overcast with a chance of rain. High of 52F. Windy. Winds from the WSW at 15 to 25 mph with gusts to 35 mph. Chance of rain 40%.
