The afternoon featured a nice mix of white and blue, significantly aiding spotting. The wind was strong and out of the west all day. Raptor Observations: Our best flight in days, kettles of Turkey Vultures bubbled up and wandered past from start to finish. And Sharp-shinned Hawks bobbed and weaved their way southward throughout the afternoon. But it was the peregrines that stole the show, zipping by in single-day numbers not seen here since 2009. Non-raptor Observations: Sandhill Crane (2), Horned Lark (60+), Blue Jay (1300+), Red-winged Blackbird (750+), American Goldfinch (40+), House Finch (5), Pine Siskin (2) Predictions: Mostly sunny with moderate west wind. Could be another good falcon day. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein (steinj...@gmail.com) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
