Today while birding Pelee with Peter Hogenbirk, I spotted a dead bird on the ground near the Visitor's Centre at Pelee. It was an empidonax flycatcher. I have the specimen which I will get to the ROM. The species involved is unclear at this time. It was very emaciated and the bird appeared to be freshly dead as it was still soft to the touch and pliable.
Other birds today in or near the park were a subadult Golden Eagle, the previously reported Eurasian Collared Dove (found by Peter), Brown Thrasher, 2 Chipping Sparrows (Dyke Rd.), 2 Black Scoters, 19 pipits, and hundreds and thousands respectively of blackbirds and starlings migrating off the tip this morning. *Geoff Carpentier* *AVOCET NATURE SERVICES* Contact me at: 905-852-2011 or [email protected] Visit my website: http://www.avocetnatureservices.com/ *Environmental & Natural History Surveys and * *Expedition & Personalized Guiding Services* _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
