Apologies for this delayed report. The Male Northern Shoveler continues to associate with a large flock of Mallards and a few Black Ducks at the start of the Carp River in Appaloosa Park in Kanata in West Ottawa. I and a couple of friends observed and photographed it yesterday (Saturday) morning.
While there a handsome mature Bald Eagle soared past overhead in a blue sky at a height of about 200+ metres. The ducks got startled momentarily but the eagle continued on and they settled down quickly. To get to Appaloosa Park take Eagleson Road south from where it intersects at the Hazeldean/Robertson Road intersection. Take your first left onto Palamino Drive then almost immediately right onto Appaloosa Drive. The park is on your right just as the street makes a 90 degree bend to the left. Good birding.
