This afternoon at 5:50 pm I found two American Woodcocks in a small muddy area
under some large willow branches. These were only about 2 meters from one of
the board walks ... this one located to the left and near the bottom of the
sloping road which is only access to the Conservation area from the parking
area at the south end of Bexhill Road. It was near a backyard with a "PHD
landscaping" sign on the fence and several yellow rope landers in the adjacent
trees. FYI the conservation authority has spent two winters dredging a large
area in the middle of the marsh; current mudflats look like they will be
excellent habitat for shorebird later in the spring. Sheridan Creek is already
flowing a moderate rate and exiting the marsh under the mounds of ice ridges
along the Lake Ontario shoreline.

Directions: Bexhill is located about 5 long blocks east of Clarkson off
Lakeshore Boulevard. Clarkson can be accessed of the QEW using Southdown Road.
