This morning there was a male black-backed woodpecker along Trail Road, Nepean in the south part of Ottawa. The bird was seen at 7:15 a.m. and was still there at 8:25 a.m. It was working a row of pine trees in a shelterbelt along the road west of the Trail Road landfill site.
Directions: Trail Road runs off Moodie Drive in the southern portion of Nepean. Proceed past the landfill site and onto the gravel portion of the road. The shelterbelt is on your right just as the road turns back to pavement and before it turns south to parallel Highway # 416.
