Raptor Observations: There are few outings more energizing than the likes of today. With little hesitation, a diverse, consistent stream of raptors pushed through for the last six hours of the count. Groups of three and four sharpies would shoot through, followed by a harrier or two, then a kestrel or three, then a Bald Eagle, then, just to keep us on our toes, a Cooper's Hawk. As for our wayward broadwings, after playing hooky yesterday, they returned to the count sheet today, drifting by in small groups during the early afternoon. Riding the southeast wind, many migrants crossed well to our north, particularly around midday. Non-raptor Observations: Other than Red-winged Blackbirds, songbird migration was minimal: Red-winged Blackbird (450+), Cedar Waxwing (30+), Blue Jay (6), Pine Warbler (1), Black-and-white Warbler (1), Killdeer (1), Common Loon (1), Black Saddlebags (12), Common Green Darner (9), Monarch (142) Predictions: Sunny skies with warm temps and moderate south wind. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein (steinj...@gmail.com) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
