These were seen while I was counting raptors for the "Hugh
Currie resurrected Linear Hawk Watch" organized by Tim McCarthy. They flew
low Holland Marsh's market gardens with 7 Black-bellied Plovers and 3
American Golden-Plovers just north of where I was counting raptors at
distances down to 40 meters (with 30x scope) since the flock circled once
attempting to land. This was just as drizzle started at 12:28 pm when the
first of two cold fronts moved through. Field marks included long slightly
up-turned orange and black bill; dark cap with white strip above eye from
forehead; gray-chest fading to white on belly and under-tail area; white
rump with black on back of tail; striking under wing pattern with black
underwing coverts and axillaries. I am no stranger to this species because
they are a locally common late summer migrant in southern Saskatchewan.

Direction:
North on Hwy. #400 to exit #55, drive east a short distance on Hwy. 31 to
Jane Street and turn north to South Canal Road and turn east (right to just
the second house on the north side).
