Most of them had the opportunity to see one of the resident Bald Eagles. Weather: Temperatures soared to 17C in the shade today, which we got a lot of with plenty of cloud cover. Sporadically the clouds would all move away, but inevitably they would be back, making for a great spotting sky. A very slight breeze blew from the SE most of the day, ending from the south. The morning was foggy, and it turned into a heavy haze for the rest of the day. Raptor Observations: Multiple days in a row of south winds does us no favours, and as such nothing much exceptional happened on the raptor front. 5 species of raptors migrated plus just over a dozen Turkey Vultures. A few Northern Harriers, Sharpies, and a Cooper's Hawk flew decently close to the tower, and it was a few hours before a Red-tail showed up at all. One Golden Eagle flew right past on the shore of Lake Erie, but the lighting was so strange that you could barely see any details about it! What a pity, considering it was one of our closest ones this season. Non-raptor Observations: Non-raptors weren't making any special effort to leave the province today either, with Blue Jays only having 20, and crows only 110. There were, however, plenty of American Robins on the move, along with a fair number of American Pipits and 200 more Rusty Blackbirds that very obligingly started feeding at the base of the tower. There is a great variety of ducks in the marsh, many of them at a close range. See today's eBird list http://ebird.org/ebird/canada/view/checklist?subID=S25714264 Predictions: SW winds with a bit of rain in the morning, switching to west winds. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jenna McDermott (jmcde...@alumni.uoguelph.ca) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists - the provincial birding organization.
