Weather: As if trapped in a grayscale photograph, the overcast gray sky paired with a thick layer of misty gray fog to craft one of the grayest days in recent memory. We waited until late afternoon before even a hint of blue sky began to break through. Somewhat warmer today, temperatures broke the 40-degree plateau in the afternoon. When there was wind, it was light and out of the west and southwest. Raptor Observations: Our fortunes appeared bright early when three Northern Harriers crossed together out over the lake. Alas, that proved not to be a harbinger of things to come. It was mostly quiet from there on out, the odd sharpie or Redtail notwithstanding. Non-raptor Observations: Bonaparte's Gull (40+), Bufflehead (12), Hooded Merganser (2) American Crow (1), Horned Lark (3) Predictions: Sunny with warmer temps and moderate southeast wind. ======================================================================== Report submitted by Jonathan Stein ([email protected]) Detroit River Hawk Watch information may be found at: http://www.drhawkwatch.org Site Description: The Detroit River Hawk Watch (a joint venture of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge and its Friends group, the International Wildlife Refuge Alliance) is the Boat Launch at Lake Erie Metropark located approximately 20 miles south of Detroit, Michigan.
