The 31st annual Cedar Creek CBC (central Essex County) was held on December 21
and 42 observers tallied 81 species and 14,619 individuals.

There was no ice on Lake Erie, and very little on local creeks and ditches.
Highlights included an amazing find of a Yellow-bellied Flycatcher (ID under
review) at Cedar Creek. This would be a new species for a Canadian Christmas
Bird Count and species #159 for the Cedar Creek CBC.

Other good finds included Mute Swan 5 (record high), White-winged Scoter 1
(second record), Killdeer 3, Eastern Phoebe 1 and Ruby-crowned Kinglet 2. The
Carolina Wren count fell to 2, the lowest number since the 1985 count season.
