Hi Everyone

Both the Mountain Bluebird and Bullock’s Oriole continue at the previously
reported locations and the Smew was observed along the St. Lawrence River
between Ault Island and off Upper Canada Village. No reports of the Pink-footed
Goose today. There was a sizable flight of Snow Geese heading south this
afternoon with over 10,000 birds. The weather forecast is showing a definite
drop in the temperature tonight over Eastern Ontario and snow in the forecast.

Good birding,

Bruce

Mountain Bluebird directions: Take Hwy 416 south or north to Exit 57. West on
Brophy to Eagleson and south on Eagleson/McCordick to Century Rd.. West on
Century to intersection of Goodstown.

Bullock’s Oriole directions: From Ottawa take Hwy 417 west to Kinburn Side
Road. After exiting turn left and follow to CR 29. Turn left and as you enter
the village of Pakenham watch for Waba Road on your right. Turn right and then
left on Dalkeith St.

Smew directions: Courtesy of Mike Burrell: Anyone searching for this bird
maybe best advised to start at this location and then work your way east
towards the footbridge to Ault Island. From west to east, it has been seen in
the last ~ 10 days at the following locations (all within 1 km or so):
Battle of Chrysler Farm Monument (44.941264, -75.069524)
Ault Island footbridge (44.948991, -75.057587)
Ault Island Causeway (44.956821, -75.049453).

The first two locations are accessed from within Upper Canada Village and will
require you to walk a short ways from your vehicle since most of the roads in
Upper Canada Village are now closed for the season. The Ault Island Causeway is
accessible by car. The bird seems to fly back and forth between these locations
frequently and may also disappear along the south
side of Ault Island. To get here, get off the 401 at exit 758 (Upper Canada
Road) just east of Morrisburg, then go south to Hwy 2 and turn east. Upper
Canada Village comes up first, then Ault Island is immediately east of there.
