Good morning birders, It's another good but not exceptional morning at Rondeau. Although there don't seem to be any large concentrations of migrants anywhere, a number of interesting birds have been seen.
The White-winged Dove continues this morning, being seen at 17264 Lakeshore. Two Golden-winged Warblers have been reported: Harrison Trail 500 m north of the visitor centre, and South Point Trail at the the 2.5 km marker coming from the east parking lot (this is not a 2.5 km walk as the distance is not counted from the parking area). A pair of Prothonotary Warblers was seen at the intersection of Bennett Rd. and Rondeau Rd, as was a Bay-breasted Warbler. The Tulip Tree Trail Prothonotaries have not been reported but are likely still present. One or two male Hooded Warblers have been seen at Pony Barn. Other notable birds include Orange-crowned Warbler at the South end of Water St. and Blue-winged Warbler in the maintenance loop. Thank you to everyone who contributed sightings and please continue to do so to me through email, or to the Visitor Centre in person or at (519) 674-1768. More information on the park's nature programs and the Friends of Rondeau is available at the Friends' website: www.rondeauprovincialpark.ca. Directions: Take exit 101 from Highway 401 and drive South 16 km on Chatham Kent Road 15. Turn right and follow the signs to the park. Bird sighting information, bird checklists, bird feeders, and breakfast and lunch offered by the Friends can be found at the visitor centre. To reach the visitor centre from the park gate, travel 6 km South on Rondeau Road to Gardiner Ave., then follow it around the bend to the parking lot. I lead guided hikes in the park twice daily - contact the visitor centre for more information.
