Good afternoon birders, An unpleasant day continues at rondeau, with seemingly limited bird activity.
The White-winged Dove has been seen again today along Lakeshore Road south of the Visitor Centre. A Golden-winged Warbler was seen on Harrison Trail just south of the group campground, while a Brewster's has been seen at the intersection of Harrison and Bennett. Yellow-throated Vireos have also been seen again at the latter location. Of note this afternoon was a Black Tern flying around with large numbers of swallows in poor weather at the Blenheim Sewage Lagoons. Please note that a free permit is required to enter the lagoons (available from the Rondeau Visitor Centre or the Blenheim Municipal Office), and that the gate must be locked behind you. When I visited the lagoons this afternoon the gate was wide open with no birders on site. Thank you to everyone who contributed sightings and please continue to do so to me through email, or to the Visitor Centre in person or at (519) 674-1768. More information on the park's nature programs and the Friends of Rondeau is available at the Friends' website: www.rondeauprovincialpark.ca. Directions: Take exit 101 from Highway 401 and drive South 16 km on Chatham Kent Road 15. Turn right and follow the signs to the park. Bird sighting information, bird checklists, bird feeders, and breakfast and lunch offered by the Friends can be found at the visitor centre. To reach the visitor centre from the park gate, travel 6 km South on Rondeau Road to Gardiner Ave., then follow it around the bend to the parking lot.
