Kingston Field Naturalists (KFN) maintains records in a 50km radius of MacDonald Park, Kingston. Birders using eBird are encouraged to share their sightings with 'Kingston FN'. Alternatively, please email or post records directly to me - contact details below. Please note that some sightings may require review and remain unconfirmed unless stated otherwise.
Highlights: It looks like birders have vacated the area in search of highlights further afield so this week's report is going to be a little brief. Highlights of the week include: BRANT, LOUISIANA WATERTHRUSH, and ORCHARD ORIOLE. Please note that Amherstview Sewage Lagoons is still undergoing construction work and is strictly off limits to all. It is now predicted to re-open to those with written permission in late summer/early autumn. There have been a number of sightings of ORCHARD ORIOLE this past week including birds at Lemoine Point CA and Invista, Kingston, Big Sandy Bay, Wolfe Island, and Prince Edward Point. The shield has produced many of the expected highlights this week including Louisiana Waterthrush on Canoe lake Road on 13th; CERULEAN WARBLERS on Canoe Lake Road on 13th and Opinicon Road on 14th; and an unexpected bonus ORANGE-CROWNED WARBLER on Opinicon on 14th. LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE continues to be seen at Napanee Limestone Plain IBA and BLACK TERNS are at Moscow Marsh and Camden Lake. Prince Edward Point has produced a great selection of birds over the last week including RED-HEADED WOODECKER on 12th, BLUE-WINGED WARBLER on 12th/13th, HARLEQUIN on 11th, MOURNING WARBLER on 12th and GAMBEL'S WHITE-CROWNED SPARROW on 11th. Over in the States, HENSLOW'S SPARROW returned to Perch River WMA on 14th. In order to minimise disturbance to wildlife and property, Kingston Field Naturalists has adopted the KFN Sensitive Sightings Policy. Also note that, as requested by the landowners, sightings of owls at the privately-owned Owl Woods must not be shared on the Internet (this includes posting as 'Amherst Island' on eBird) by KFN or anyone who visits. To ensure continued access to this location, please respect their wishes and follow the guidelines posted on-site. To maintain records for conservation purposes, sightings from that location are welcomed through all the traditional channels. As always, thanks to all those who have submitted sightings over the last week. Mark. Mark D.
