In the late afternoon we had a trio of visitors from Nevada, and I got to show one of them a nice young Golden Eagle through the scope, though unfortunately it was quite distant. Weather: Another gorgeous day of T-shirt and flip-flop weather! The morning went great with perfect NW winds, and nice skies for viewing! In the afternoon, the winds switched to the W and we noticed a dramatic decline in numbers. Raptor Observations: Another good day for raptor migration!.. well.. until the wind switched on us.. The morning was excellent, with 6 Golden Eagles before noon local time, and 236 Red-tailed Hawks in the hour between 11-12 local time; we were dreaming of a 1000 Red-tail day! But unfortunately, the weather had different plans. None the less, today was another excellent day to observe raptors in quantity, and of heights. Non-raptor Observations: Similar to yesterday, many birds went undercounted due to raptors numbers taking priority! We still had 3160 American Crows migrating past, and good blackbird numbers. For the full eBird checklist, go to http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist/S32371896 One butterfly of note was a nice Buckeye that came and landed on the tower for us! Predictions: Tomorrow calls for mostly clear skies, with a moderate Westerly breeze! ======================================================================== Report submitted by Sean Jenniskens (seanjennisk...@hotmail.com) Holiday Beach Conservation Area information may be found at: http://hbmo.ca/ _______________________________________________ ONTBIRDS is presented by the Ontario Field Ornithologists (OFO) - the provincial birding organization.
