This message has been posted with the permission of Mark Cranford, the Ontbirds coordinator. The Canadian Wildlife Service, Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry, Bird Studies Canada, Royal Ontario Museum, Ontario Field Ornithologists and eBird Canada are working together to expand the eBird database through the entry of historic bird checklists from Ontario. Our hope is to create a precedent for the scientific analysis of historical data stored in eBird. As a first step in this undertaking we are creating an inventory of historical checklists that can be made available for use in this project. Primarily, we are looking for birders' checklists, notebooks and journal records prior to 1970. Ideally, these will include complete or near complete lists of birds seen on a specific date and in a specific location. We are also interested in knowing about any large collection of lists or notebooks you may have that have not already been entered into eBird. If you have in your possession any materials fitting this description and you are interested in helping out with this exciting project please contact Mike Cadman at [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>. Thank you from all of us for your time and assistance.
