Birders: The Blenheim Sewage Lagoons are once again accessible for birding via municipal permit. The easiest method to obtain your permit is by email. The contact in the municipality for handling permits has changed from previous years. To get your permit in advance of your visit, contact one of the following: terr...@chatham-kent.ca or bri...@chatham-kent.ca Your permit will be sent as a WORD attachment. Print it off, sign, and keep with you. Send a scanned, signed copy back to one of the above emails for their current files. If you are in the area during office hours, you may visit the municipal service centre in downtown Blenheim between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The office is located in the Post Office building at 35 Talbot St West. Permits may be available at the Rondeau Provincial Park Visitor Centre desk during the festival in May as in previous years. However that has not yet been confirmed, and it is advised to get your permits in advance as per the instructions above. When you get your permit, you will be given the combination to the lock on the south gate, the only gate to be accessed for birding. Local birders ask that you please adhere to the following: -park only on the east side of the road so as to not interfere with neighbours or traffic. -do not give out the lock combination to anyone. -lock the gate behind you even when you are birding in the lagoon area to prevent unauthorized entry which may jeopardize future access. For rarities, please post on Ontbirds as soon as possible. It would be appreciated if your lists for your visit to the lagoons are entered into ebird, using the Blenheim Sewage Lagoons birding hotspot for the Municipality of Chatham-Kent. Happy Birding!
