Highlights:

Winds weren't quite as favourable this week as last but that feeling of
anticipation still exists. There can be no doubt that spring has arrived,
and with that an influx of the regular early migrants. Lots of birders are
out too bagging 'first of year' sightings but nothing too dramatic has been
sighted in the region. Here are the highlights of the past 2 weeks:

NORTHERN GOSHAWK - a single bird was seen near Verona on 17th.

DOUBLE-CRESTED CORMORANT - a 'white-crested' form was photographed at Sand
Bay, Wolfe Island on 19th.

SORA - an early bird was seen at Yarker on 17th.

SANDHILL CRANE - 2 birds were noted at Russell Road, Lansdowne on 15th.

UPLAND SANPIPER - the first returning bird was seen at Napanee Plain IBA on
15th with several reports later in the week.

WILSON'S PHALAROPE - the first bird was back at Martin Edwards Reserve,
Amherst Island on 21st.

LITTLE GULL - A single was seen at Waupoos Marina on 15th, with 2 seen near
Kaiser Cross Road on 18th.

LOGGERHEAD SHRIKE - birds are back on their breeding grounds at Napanee
Plain IBA with 3-4 pairs being seen throughout the period.

MARSH WREN - early birds were seen near Glenburnie on 16th and 17th.

CAROLINA WREN - The Ravensview bird, just east of Kingston, was seen on
16th.

In order to minimise disturbance to wildlife and property in the recording
area, Kingston Field Naturalists has adopted the KFN Sensitive Sightings
Policy
<http://kingstonfieldnaturalists.org/birding/KFN_sensitive_sightings_policy.
pdf> . Please note that you must be a member of Kingston Field Naturalists
(KFN) or be accompanied by a member to access the Martin Edwards Reserve.

As always, a big thank you goes to all who have submitted sightings over the
last week.

Mark.
