Weather: Light winds prevailed in the morning and increased to moderate in the afternoon. Winds were mostly northeast but changed to southwest in the final hour. It was overcast skies all day with some light drizzle in the afternoon. The temperature ranged from 6.4 C to 10 C. Raptor Observations: The morning began very slow for raptor migration but picked up significantly in the mid to late afternoon. 2 immature Northern Goshawks flew past the tower at eye level at different times during the day. An Osprey was moving up the beach heading west and not seen again for the rest of the day. (218) Red-tailed Hawks and (80) Red-shouldered Hawks tallied their highest totals thus far this season and were coming over fast and furious in the afternoon. Sharp-shinned Hawks numbers (29) were the lowest they have been in some time. Non-raptor Observations: A Common Gallinule is still continuing at Carps Crossing. A total of 18 Tree Swallows were seen flying over the tower today. A group of 18 Pine Siskin were observed landing in a nearby tree before moving on. A group of 12 Purple Finch were also observed resting in a nearby tree. No Blue Jays were seen or heard today.
