South Peel Christmas Bird Count was held yesterday Saturday December 15.
Average diversity with low total numbers of both waterfowl and land birds.
Most of better birds had previously been reported.
At Sedgewick Park in Oakville female Hooded Warbler, mulitple
Orange-crowned Warbler and a Nashville Warber.
In Port Credit a Yellow-rumped Warbler at the base of Hurontario Street
calling and in flight between gazebo and under construction pumping
station to east.
In Clarkson a Wild Turkey in urban setting off Silver Birch close to
Lakeshore Rd. First in the Dentistry parking on south side. Then on the
front lawn and Backyard of 1421 Lakeshore Rd. The owner said it has been
around for 6 months. The Turkey is very territorial and aggressive
toward postmen. Canada Post has sent warning letters to local
proprietors stating that Wild Turkeys are a “ Hazard” to the postmen and
should be removed!
North of 403 east of Credit River Common Yellowthroat in Hewick
Meadows, right at the bottom of the hill on the trail coming in from
Credit Pointe Drive.
Today an Eastern Phoebe at appeared to be on the move at a stormwater
pond beside Great Lakes Road in Bronte.
Today we saw on Toronto Island an other Eastern Phoebe and a
Ruby-crowned Kinglet at the Rectory Restaurant on Ward's Island at the
base of the bridge to Algonquin Island. We also 5 Eastern Bluebirds
including 4 bright males on the frisbee golf course just past the firehall.
