Perhaps there has been progress on C-- (I haven't tracked it in a while), but failing that we really need a backend for managed languages. Something that fits the same niche as LLVM, but meets the needs of a different class of languages. The promising part (at least to me) of Philip's work is that this may no longer be a sequential dependency. shap
