Still happens here too. Maybe not de jure, but de facto. Sweatshops in big cities, peach farms in georgia with private currency and oppressive company stores. I don't know if it still happens, but I saw an expose years ago about how migrant farm workers in the california central valley were made to sleep in holes in the dirt.
