Oscar,
If we are the vultures, than I guess that makes Tucows the dessert, water
the DNS and you know who is walking through that dessert, the customers.
It really is not that bleak.
Ken raises very legitimate issues. All we RSPs need is a couple of bad press
statements about how people lost their domains because their RSP
dissappeared and we will all get lumped together as bad news. This happens
with hosting all the time. Go visit http://www.fuckedcompany.com/. (*Don't
mean to curse, but I didn't name the site*)
Let us be realistic here. If we do not plan for contingencies, people will
get lost in the shuffle. The Internet business, and RSP business is pretty
fluid. People get in and get out without so much as a "how do you do".
People need to know what their options are.
As a business owner, I have learned that you must plan for
everyone/everything you do business with to fail you. A good business person
is one who plans for all contingencies: good and bad.
I think your self serving vultures was a little harsh.

Subject: Re: Folding RSPs:
"self serving vultures", really? I think you are missing the point.
I raised several legitimate questions about the RSP community and how
customers will ultimately flow through the system.
The way customers are treated will reflect on ALL RSPs, and on Tucows.
If we don't discuss some of these issues, then they will either be
ignored (bad for the customer) or they will be abused by overly
aggressive entities that will hurt the system. I am not in favor of
either of those outcomes.
As for the fact that my employer might gain a business advantage by my
participating in this "bizops" list... that's a given. You don't really
expect me to defend that, do you?
