Tom,

yup. definitely. there was a huge landrush. but in all the haste, much of the territory claimed was desert. i looked at the stats a while ago. for that period, more domains were expiring than were being created. millions of domains were affected. it still probably holds..

as an active domain buyer and trader, i get tons of lists of crappy domains submitted to me. it's a drag sometimes. however, the lists are getting shorter these days, which is good. probably most of the domains will expire, never again to be re-newed.

even my own portfolio is affected. i had 1400 domains a year ago. i still have 1400 domains. this belies the fact i have been adding and deleting like crazy, approx 50 domains per month. i have been grooming, weeding, and planting anew. so, the quality of my holdings has gone up significantly, which is a good thing. we are all focussing on reality, not on pipe dreams.

as in any other business, ours has its cycles. it takes awhile to learn the business. and it simply takes years of trial and error to get it right.

when the economy bounces back, and it will soon, GOOD domains will be better than ever.

lately i mostly trade with other speculators and domain developers  --which is a great way to focus and mutually strengthen portfolios, essential goals these days.

Best,
Hal Meyer

Anyone see a trend?
