Dear friends of I4C,
Political conventions are upon us, in all their glory. My wish is that
political candidates would be able to retain the passion and ideas which
propelled them into public life in the first place, and resist the pull to
be "handled" so that they may become more elect-able. Yes, there is
"convention"-al wisdom at play here, in securing a large enough territory of
potential voters. But how much more exciting would it be to see the give
and take of a politician's positions played out in real time, rather than
behind closed doors.
One of the worst developments in political analysis in recent years,in my
mind, is the highlighting of someone's "flip-flop" on an issue. Is there no
such thing as a rational change of mind on a subject, as a result of honest
debate?
Anyway, this organization (I4C) remains non-partisan, while being committed
to the common good -- locally, nationally and internationally.
Yours,
Brian Stein-Webber
